A Look at Hand Fasting
The purpose of this ceremony is to symbolise eternity and endless
comittment, by forming a ring with the hands. The fasting ceremony
is an early pagan tradition, and was once the popular method by
which couples pledged eternal commitment.
The couple making the commitment select a family member, close
friend, or event the celebrant, to take a length of ribbon, cord
or other material.
As the couple make different pledges and promises to one another,
varying coloured ribbon or cord is in-turn tied (or fastened)
by the selected incumbent to the couples hands, thus binding the
coouples hands (and their promises) for eternity.
